The Altoona Curve scored a franchise-record 19 runs en route to a 19-8 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Sunday.
The Curve slugged four home runs in the game, one off the bat of infielder Andres Alvarez, who now leads the team with eight home runs this season. Tucupita Marcano and Lolo Sanchez each went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and a combined three walks.
Starter Kyle Nicolas gave up four earned runs in 2.2 innings for Altoona. Reliever Travis MacGregor earned the win after throwing three innings of one-run ball.
J.C. Flowers and Zach Matson finished the game with two perfect innings.
The Curve won the series 4-2 and have the day off today. They open a six-game road series against the Harrisburg Senators tomorrow night.
MATT GORSKI PROMOTED TO ALTOONA
Along with promotions at the MLB level, Pirates outfield prospect Matt Gorski was promoted to Class AA Altoona after yesterday’s game with High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers.
Gorski, 24, hit .294 with 17 home runs and 37 RBI with the Grasshoppers this season. He capped off his stay in Greensboro yesterday with a three-home run game, with his third coming in walk-off fashion.
