The Curve slugged three home runs in a 12-2 win in the series opener over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Tuesday.
Former first round pick Nick Gonzales, who’s struggled in the early parts of the season, went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI. Cody Sabol and Andres Alvarez also tallied a home run in the game, while Connor Scott went 2-for-4 with a double.
Kyle Nicolas was dominant once again on the mound, tossing four innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts. Travis McGregor earned the win in relief after allowing just one earned run over 2.2 innings.
The Curve and Flying Squirrels return to PNG Field this morning at 11 a.m. for the second Education Day game of the season. Omar Cruz (2-3, 3.67 ERA) will start for Altoona.
