Today is the primary election for Pennsylvania, and Indiana County voters will be making some choices when it comes to the candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and U.S. Senator today.
Many of the local races, including for state representative, and for U.S. Congress, have races where the nominees are running unopposed, and those nominees are expected to advance to the general election this November. However the major statewide races for Governor and Lt. Governor, along with the U.S. Senate race are expected to attract much of the attention. On the Democrat ballot, voters will choose between Alex Khalil, Connor Lamb, Malcom Kenyatta or John Fetterman for U.S. Senate, while Republicans will choose from Kathy Barnette, Dr. Mehmet Oz, George Bochetto, Jeff Bartos, Dave McCormick, Sean Gale and Carla Sands.
The Governor’s race has seen some activity as of late, as two people have dropped out of the Republican race after Indiana County’s ballots were prepared: Melissa Hart and Jake Corman. Both have put their endorsement behind Lou Barletta. Barletta is running against Doug Mastriano, Nche Zama, Dave White, Bill McSwain, Charlie Gerow, and Joe Gale. On the Democratic side, Josh Shapiro runs unopposed.
In the Lieutenant Governor race, Austin Davis, Ray Sosa and Brian Sims are running on the Democrat ticket, while Clarence Schillinger, James Jones, Rick Saccone, John Brown, Chris Frye, Jeff Coleman, Russ Diamond, Carrie Lewis DelRosso, and Teddy Daniels are seeking the Republican nomination.
While this is the primary election for the Democrat and Republican parties, voters who registered with a third party or are independent are asked to vote today in Armstrong Township as a liquor license question is up for voter referendum.
Polls (open at 7:00 AM and) will remain open until 8:00 tonight. We’ll have election returns coverage on your Hometown Radio Stations throughout the evening and you can also follow results and see a sample ballot on our 2022 Election page.
