Once again, the Penguins found themselves on the wrong side of history as they fell to the New York Rangers last night, 4-3, at Madison Square Garden, earning themselves another first round elimination in the NHL Playoffs.
Paul Stiegerwald has the story.
The Penguins held a lead through two periods of play, however, a late goal by Mika Zibenejad in the third gave the Rangers new life heading into overtime. In the extra period, a penalty by defensemen Brock McGinn proved to be costly as it allowed a Artemi Panarin to score on the man advantage.
As a team, the Penguins had no trouble creating scoring opportunities, as they forced 45 shots on goal while limiting the Rangers to 30.
Sullivan commended the work on the Penguins special teams unit, which nabbed two Power Play goals and one shorthanded goal.

Sullivan adds that this was a special group of players.
Captain Sidney Crosby said the Penguins fought hard throughout the duration of the playoffs.
Jake Guentzel, who shined for the Penguins in the playoffs, said this was a successful year for the team since they faced adversity throughout the entire season.
After he was deemed a “game-time decision” on Sunday, goaltender Tristan Jarry came off the injury report and started in net for the Penguins. While he wasn’t at 100 percent, he made 26 saves on 30 shots faced.
Jarry said his goal was to get as healthy as he could for Game Seven.
The Penguins finish the season with a 46-25-11 record.
