The Pirates were stymied by a former teammate last night as their struggles against the suddenly hot Reds continued.

Game Two of the series is tonight at PNC Park. The Pirates will send Mitch Keller (0-4, 6.11 ERA) vs. Tyler Mahle (1-4, 6.46 ERA). It’s a 6:10 airtime on WCCS.
The Pirates yesterday sent utility man Cole Tucker to Indianapolis and recalled infielder Rodolpho Castro, who started at shortstop and went 0-for-3.
The Bucs activated right-hander Duane underwood Jr. from the injured list, claimed right-hander Tyler Beede off waivers from the Giants (where he was 0-0 with a 4.66 ERA in six games this season.) Beede last pitched on May 4th against the Dodgers, giving up two runs in one-and-a-third innings. Pitcher Max Kranick was optioned to Indy and pitcher Beau Sulser was designated for assignment.
Also, outfielder Jake Marisnick had his left thumb surgery yesterday. He will be out 4 to 6 weeks.
ALTOONA CURVE
The Altoona Curve lost to Somerset, 7-2, last night. The Curve have not announced a starter for tonight.
Right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski was placed on the 7-day injured list yesterday with a shoulder problem. Right-hander Bear Bellomy was activated from the Development List.
