Earlier today, the Pirates announced that RHP Duane Underwood Jr. was transferred from Class AAA Indianapolis to Class AA Altoona and will make a rehab appearance with the Curve tonight against the Somerset Patriots.
Underwood has missed action since Opening Day, when he left the season opener against the St. Louis Cardinals with a right hamstring strain and has pitched 3.2 innings in three rehab appearances. He’s allowed one run, three hits and three walks while garnering three strikeouts.
Underwood’s transfer marks the first time a Pirates player rehabbed with the Curve since Clay Holmes and Francisco Cervelli did in August 2019.
Among other Pirates injury news, manager Derek Shelton said that an update on outfielder Jake Marisnick’s thumb injury will be available tonight. Marisnick suffered the injury after making a diving catch in center field during last night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rumors are circulating that he could be headed to the 10-day injured list while RHP Max Kranick takes his place on the active roster.
Kranick was seen in the Pirates’ clubhouse earlier today.
Lastly, catcher Roberto Perez still doesn’t have an official injury designation, but Shelton repeated today that he could miss “a significant amount of time.”
