BASEBALL
At the 14th Teddy Bear Fund Drive Classic last night at First Commonwealth Bank Field, Indiana’s Ben Ryen smashed two-run home runs in his first two at-bats, and Lincoln Trusal and Steven Budash hit back-to-back home runs as the Little Indians bested Homer-Center, 14-4, in a six-inning game.
Budash was 3-for-4 for Indiana, which banged out 12 hits while limiting the Wildcats to only two, both singles by Braden Dunn and Andrew Ruddock in the 5th inning.
More than $800 was raised for the Teddy Bear Fund Drive.
Marion Center crushed Purchase Line, 17-4, as Landin Bennett drove in five runs with three hits, including a triple and a home run. The undefeated Stingers scored four runs in the top of the first and another in the second before Purchase Line scored four in the bottom of the second. Marion Center broke it open in the 3rd inning, with seven runs and then with five more in the 4th. The Stingers had 14 hits, with Bennett, Skyler Olp, and Parker Black all collecting three. Braden Reichenbach got the win in relief.
Northern Cambria knocked out Penns Manor, 15-0. Setting up a Wednesday showdown with Marion Center. The Stingers are 11-0 in the Heritage Conference East and the Colts are 10-1.
River Valley downed West Shamokin, 8-3. Matt Izzo was 3-for-4 for the Panthers and Niko Buffone was 2-for-3 for the Wolves. In the Heritage Conference West, United and River Valley are both 6-4 to lead the division.
SOFTBALL
River Valley clinched a trip to the Heritage Conference championship game with a 6-5 win over West Shamokin yesterday. Hannah Foust struck out eight over seven innings and Belle Pynos cracked a two-run home run. Madison Stutzman and Bailey Dunlap also drove in runs for the Panthers.
Cambria Heights blasted Penns Manor, 14-1. The Highlanders are undefeated in the Heritage Conference East and will play River Valley for the conference championship next Wednesday at Northern Cambria.
United beat Homer-Center, 10-1. Ashlynn Kerr was 2-for-3 for Homer-Center. United did not enter any stats.
Marion Center bombed Purchase Line, 18-4
Northern Cambria went out-of-conference and beat Portage, 11-1.
