After carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against Clarion, freshman Jimmy Tooley was named as the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week, according to IUP Athletics.
Tooley lost the no-hit bid after giving up a single in the seventh inning, but ended the day with seven strikeouts in a complete game shutout of the Golden Eagles.
Tooley’s Player of the Week nomination is the second time this season a Crimson Hawk earned the honor, as infielder Markus Cestra was the first. IUP Athletics also adds that Tooley is the first IUP pitcher to be named Player of the Week since Jeff Allen won it during the opening weekend of the 2016 season.
His final outing put an exclamation point on his freshman season as he finished with a 8-1 record and a 4.17 ERA.
