The Indiana Junior High Track teams traveled to Bellefonte on Saturday for a very wet and cold inaugural Jeremy Herbstritt Track Invitational.
The Indiana Girls team finished first on the strength of several top performances. Sophie Scardina led the team with victories in the 100 meter dash and the 4×100 meter relay along with Ali Genchur, Emily Ferraro, and Addison Porter. Scardina also placed second in the 200 meter dash and the 4×400 relay along with Ferraro, Addy Fry, and Maddie Bauer. Addy Fry also won the 400 meters, placed second in the 800 meters, and anchored the winning 4×800 meter relay along with Bauer, Jocelyn Higbee and Laken Kugler.
In the field, Sarah Fisher won the discus and Jayla Peterson won the shot put. Other medalists included Kaylee Onder who placed second in the 1600 meters and third in the 3200 meters, Kugler who placed third in the 800 meters, Genchur who placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles and 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles, Ferraro who placed 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles, Porter who placed second in the 100 meters and 2nd in the long jump, Addy Hutton who placed third in the high jump, and Layla Clifford who placed third in the javelin.
The boys team finished second overall, just 12 points behind State College. Levi Porter continued his winning performances by placing first in the 100 meters, the high jump, long jump and triple jump.
Other medalists included: Mathew Sebring who won the 300 meter hurdles, and took second in the 110 meter hurdles. Dominic Fanella won the discus and ran on the 2nd place 4×400 team with Kaiden Branan, Josh Reed, and Luc Fields. Jack Lehman picked up three medals placing second in the javelin and third in both the discus and shot put. Fields added a second place medal in the 200 and also ran on the third place 4×800 meter relay along with Branan, Mason Musser and Danny Trevorrow. Josh Reed also placed third in the 400 meters and Nick Caretti placed third in 110 meter hurdles.
The teams will travel to Franklin- Regional for their last dual meet on Monday.
