Last week, the County Commissioners issued a proclamation making May mental health awareness month in Indiana County. That proclamation was presented today to a gathering of people at the Indiana County Courthouse today. Indiana County Commissioner Robin Gorman had high praise for the people who work in the mental health industry, as back in 2012, mental health funding at the state level was cut severely.
One of the speakers at the event was Tammy Calderone, administrator of the Armstrong-Indiana Behavioral and Developmental Health Program, who talked about the importance of raising awareness to mental health issues.
The rally was followed by a walk from the courthouse to IRMC Park, where several mental health agencies have set up information booths. That will run until 3:00 this afternoon.
