A Rural Valley man is now in custody after a standoff in Cowanshannock Township Sunday night.
Initial reports say that state police were dispatched around 5:00 PM Sunday night to a home along State Route 2006 in Cowanshannock Township for a reported domestic dispute. When police got there, they found that Shane Bowers had barricaded himself in his home. Troopers were able to get everyone else out of the house and no one was injured. The standoff lasted for five hours. Troopers had reported that Bowers had multiple firearms in the house and had threatened to hurt himself. State Police Special Emergency Response Team members used flash bangs and tear gas to get him to come out.
While Bowers is now in police custody, he is currently at a nearby hospital receiving treatment and a checkup before being transported to jail. His arraignment hearing has not yet happened. The investigation is continuing at this time.
