The Penguins get back to action tonight with a home game against the Boston Bruins. They lost to the Bruins their last time out, 2-1, last Saturday. Center Evgeni Malkin will serve the final game of his four-game NHL suspension for a slashing incident against Nashville on April 10th.
Washington lost to Vegas, 4-3, last night, so the Penguins remain a point ahead of the Capitals for third place in the Metro Division.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry will miss his third straight game with a suspected broken foot. The Penguins have said only that he has a lower body injury. Coach Mike Sullivan was asked yesterday about the possibility of Casey DeSmith being his goaltender in the playoffs and said don’t count Jarry out just yet.
The Penguins posed for their team photograph yesterday and Jarry wore a boot cast on his right foot and moved about on a wheeled apparatus.
The Penguins gave up two goals before the two-minute mark of the first period on Saturday. Sullivan says they need a better effort right from the opening faceoff.
With the regular season winding down, forward Jeff Carter says the Penguins need to be playing at their peak when the playoffs arrive.
Defenseman Mike Matheson says the Pens have time to fine tune their game for the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Tonight’s game faces off at 7:00. It’s a 6;00 airtime on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel.
The Penguins made news yesterday by announcing the hiring of U.S.A. women’s team star Amanda Kessel to the front office staff. The sister of former Penguin Phil Kessell will be the team’s first participant in a new “executive management program”, a one-year mentoring program that will expose her to working with the team’s “partnership, marketing, communication and broadcast departments, as well as hockey operations.”
Kessel says working in multiple departments will be a great opportunity.
Kessel says women are becoming a regular part of NHL teams in a variety of roles, and she is looking forward to this first step into her future.
The 30-year-old Kessel has played on three U.S. Olympic hockey teams, winning a gold and two silver medals. She plays in the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association.
