State police were out in full force for the Easter Holiday and have released the statistics for across the state and for the troop that covers Indiana County and other areas.
According to a news release, police say that troopers investigated 449 vehicle crashes between April 15th and 17th across the state. While it’s a reduction in the total number of crashes from 2019, it’s an increase in the number of fatal crashes and people killed in those crashes. Four people were killed in four fatal crashes over the last weekend, compared to one fatal crash that killed two people. A total of 101 people were injured over the weekend, and 47 of the crashes investigated were alcohol-related, including one of the fatal crashes. State police also made 341 DUI arrests, issued 4,784 speeding tickets, 415 seat belt citations, 57 child safety seat citations and more than 8,200 tickets for other reasons.
For Troop A, one fatal crash was reported by state police, and that was an ATV crash in the Shelocta Area on Sunday. It was one of 18 crashes investigated by troopers in our area. Seven people were injured in those crashes. Four of the crashes investigated were alcohol-related. State police in Troop A also arrested 21 people for DUI, issued 313 speeding tickets, 36 seatbelt tickets, two child safety seat citations, and 402 other tickets.
