District Attorney Bob Manzi announced today that charges have been filed against defendant Michael Stiles, 54 of Smicksburg, for the sexual assault of a minor. The charges include Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse with a person less than 16 years old, Statutory Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault of a person less than 16 years old and Indecent Assault of a person less than 16 years old.
The victim related to a trusted adult that Michael Stiles sexually assaulted them on several occasions. A report was made to the Pennsylvania State Police and the investigation was opened. In cooperation with the District Attorney’s Office, members of the Pennsylvania State Police completed a consensual phone call with the defendant. During that call, the defendant admitted to portions of the victim’s claims. The Pennsylvania State Police filed the charges against Stiles and were able to arrest him without incident.
The defendant was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Christopher S. Welch and bail was set at $100,000.00. The defendant remains incarcerated in the Indiana County Jail awaiting his preliminary hearing scheduled on April 25, 2022.
At this point, the defendant has only been charged and remains innocent until proven guilty under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
