In Westmoreland County plea Court yesterday, a former Derry Township man pleaded guilty to DUI controlled substance for a crash that injured a Blairsville man in October of 2018.
42-year-old Orrin William Burbank was ordered by Judge Christopher Feliciani to prison to serve one year less a day to two years less a day, plus five years of probation and more than $8,000 in restitution to the victim Timothy Mock of Blairsville.
Mock was riding his motorcycle between Bills Lane and Vaughn Lane on Route 217 in Derry Township when Burbank made a left turn in front of him, causing the two to collide and Mock to be thrown from his cycle. He landed on the road 15 feet away, suffering severe lower body injuries, and was flown from the scene to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
Burbank admitted to state police that he’d smoked marijuana the day before and tests confirmed he still had marijuana in his system.
Burbank will be allowed to serve his probation in Virginia, where he now works.
