The number of brush fires in Indiana County this year so far is now up to eighteen after two brush fires were reported on Friday.
The first fire came at 11:18 AM on Friday, according to Indiana County 911, and was reported at 347 Chestnut Ridge Road in Burrell Township. Black Lick and Blairsville fire departments were dispatched initially, with the Coral-Graceton fire department called out two minutes later to assist. Initial scanner reports said the fire was in a back yard and had the danger of spreading to a wooded area behind the property. Black Lick fire officials say that the fire was out by the time they got there, as the homeowner was able to put it out on their own. Crews remained on the scene to soak the ground and prevent the fire from spreading further. Because of the quick work by both the homeowner and the fire departments, the damage was limited to a 20-by-20 yard area. Fire crews determined that the brush fire started with someone burning in their backyard.
Few details are available right now on the other brush fire that was reported yesterday. That fire was on Sinktown Road in South Mahoning Township. Indiana County 911 dispatched the Plumville Fire Department to the scene at 12:09 PM.
