Gas prices are continuing to hold steady on a daily basis, but are still seeing a descent week to week and month to month.
The national average according to Triple-A this morning remained essentially unchanged over the last 24 hours at $4.07 a gallon. That is still a five cent decrease from last week and a 23-cent decrease over the last month, when gas prices were among the highest of the surge after the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The same trend was seen with Pennsylvania’s gas price average, which remained at $4.16 over the last 24 hours. That’s a six-cent decrease from last week and a 23-cent decrease over the last month.
Prices could continue to drop as the Biden Administration announced on Friday that oil leases will resume on federal land. The land sales, however, come with higher royalty charges for gas and oil produced and a sharp reduction in acreage available to lease. The Interior Department says about 144-thousand acres are available to be leased for oil and gas drilling. This comes as the Biden Administration has been under pressure for weeks to address soaring energy prices since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
