Quick actions by a homeowner and by fire crews prevented a brush fire from spreading further Friday morning.
Black Lick and Blairsville fire crews were dispatched at 11:18 AM to 347 Chestnut Ridge Road in Burrell Township, with Coral-Graceton fire crews called two minutes later to assist at the scene, according to Indiana County 911. Initial scanner reports that the fire started in a backyard and there was a concern that the fire would spread to a wooded area behind the house.
Black Lick fire officials said that the homeowner was able to put out the fire before crews got there, but crews went into prevention mode, soaking the area with water to keep the fire from spreading further. Officials say that only a 20 yard by 20 yard area was burned.
This marks the 17th brush fire reported in Indiana County this year.
