The Penguins have the longest current consecutive season playoff streak of any team in North American sports after clinching a Stanley Cup playoff appearance with last night’s win over the Islanders.

Coach Mike Sullivan says the playoff streak is great, but it’s never about making the playoffs, it’s about winning them.
Sullivan says making the postseason is something you don’t take for granted.
Sullivan says Jake Guentzel, who scored his 36th and 37th goals of the season, might not be considered an elite forward by others across the NHL, but he is in Pittsburgh.
Sidney Crosby, who scored his 29th of the season, says the Penguins need to keep playing well to get ready for a playoff run.
Crosby and Guentzel played with the puck on their two-on-none breakaway, with Crosby burying the puck for his 29th goal. He appreciates Guentzel’s skills.
Crosby says the Penguins have been scuffling lately but in the closing games of the season they have a chance to improve their playoff position.
Bryan Rust and Evan Rodrigues were back in the lineup last night after having to leave Tuesday’s game in New York because of illness. Jason Zucker left the game in the first period after taking a Zdeno Chara slap shot in the hand, but returned in the second period.
The Penguins extended their Metro Division third place lead over the Capitals to five points when the Caps lost to the Minnesota Wild, 7-3. Washington has two games in hand on the Pens.
The Penguins play the Bruins in Boston tomorrow afternoon at 12:30, and play the Bruins again on Thursday in Pittsburgh. Those will be the final two games of Evgeni Malkin’s four-game NHL suspension.
