IUP football’s spring practice schedule has been a get-to-know-you affair this season, with a number of new players and coaches coming into the program. That includes new quarterback Mak Sexton, a transfer from Pittsburg State in Kansas, who has two years of eligibility remaining.
Sexton spoke with Jack Benedict over the weekend.
Sexton and IUP will take the field against East Stroudsburg on September 10th, a little over five-and-a-half months from now.
BASEBALL
IUP was swept by Cal U, 4-0 and 5-4, in a baseball doubleheader yesterday. The Crimson Hawks were no-hit in the first game by Cal’s Dylan Brosky. In the second game, IUP got an RBI single by Colin Williams and a run-scoring double by Peyton Johnson, plus runs scored on an error and a bases-loaded walk. IUP is 13-14, and 5-5 in the PSAC West.
SOFTBALL
IUP softball swept two from Edinboro, 7-3 and 4-3, yesterday. Jenna Rhue a home run in both games and Haleigh Zimmerman also hit one as IUP won its fifth and sixth in a row. Bella Bucy had a complete-game relief appearance, entering the game after four batters and no outs in the first inning and going the rest of the way in the first game. IUP is 9-6, and 6-0 in league play.
LACROSSE
IUP lacrosse lost to #23 Seton Hill, 16-7, at Miller Stadium yesterday. IUP fell to 8-4, and 5-2 in the PSAC West. The Griffins are 9-3 and 5-2.
TENNIS
The IUP women’s tennis team’s win streak is at four matches after shutting out Goldey-Beacom, 7-0 yesterday. The Hawks are 9-7 and 4-0 this month.
