Despite cold and damp conditions the Indiana track and field team turned in some great performances Friday at the 31-team Lady Spartan / Latrobe Wildcat Invitational held at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.
Abbie Huey continued her strong junior season, winning the 200 meters (25.97) and the 400 meters (1:00.32). As a result of her efforts Huey was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet. Other individual place winners for the girls included Lizzy Lubold, who took 5th place in the javelin, throwing 96-5, and Cadence Ullman, who placed 6th in the 200 meters with her time of 27.70.
The girls finished the night placing 5th in the 4×400 relay with the team of Huey, Ullman, Eve Kuzneski, and Kate Mill running a time of 4:28.84. On the evening the girls scored a total of 25 points, good for 6th place overall.
The boys had an equally successful meet, scoring 47 points on their way to a 5th place finish. Owen Putt led the boys with his victory in the 400 meters (52.32) and 2nd place finish in the 200 meters (23.58). Sophomore Charlie Weber took first place in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 13-6. Other individual place winners included Stanford Webb, who took 2nd in the long jump with a jump of 20-11, and Jacob Gill, who took 6th place in the 400 meters, running 54.65. In the relays the team of Putt, Gill, Will Berzonsky and Jon Berzonsky finished the meet with a winning effort in the 4×400 with their time of 3:36.09.
The teams return to action next Tuesday with a home section meet versus Penn Trafford.
