IUP has announced the list of the 2022 Distinguished Alumni that will be taking part in IUP’s Celebration weekend this Friday and Saturday.
The annual Distinguished Alumni awards banquet will be held on April 9th and will cap off Celebration Weekend. Those that will be honored this year include:
- Thomas Buggey, of Indiana and Brockway, a special education graduate in the class of 1973, who is a pirvate consultant, trainer and speaker in video self-modeling for children with autism. He is also the chief science officer at Invirtua.com
- Jordan Golin of Pittsburgh, a Doctoral graduate from the class of 1996. He is president and CEO of Pittsburgh’s Jewish Family and Community Services
- Retired Major General Larry Gottardi, a 1971 education graduate from IUP and a native of Indiana, who received collateral appointment in 2021 as Acting Deputy Undersecretary of the Army
- Rebecca Stossel Stapleton, a 1984 government and public service degree graduate who in 2020 retired as senior vice president and chief banking officer of S&T Bank.
- Nicholas Arino, a 2010 MBA graduate. He and his wife were the first Argentineans to obtain an Eberly College of Business MBA at IUP.
- Catherine Marcum, a 2008 Criminology doctoral graduate who will chair Appalachian State University’s Department of Government and Justice Studies.
- Deborah Evans Smith, a 1981 criminology graduate and a retired senior official with the FBI.
Other events scheduled for the weekend include a celebration of philanthropy tomorrow night. Also during that celebratory dinner, the IUP Men’s and Women’s basketball teams and women’s swimming and diving teams will be recognized for their run in the national championships. There will also be a volunteer recognition breakfast scheduled for Saturday morning.
