A new poll of Republicans conducted by WHTM Harrisburg, Emerson College Polling, and the political website The Hill, shows Doug Mastriano leading the GOP race for Governor of Pennsylvania, with 16.2 percent of the voters who expressed a preference. Lou Barletta is second, at 12.4 percent, followed by Bill McSwain at 6.4 percent, Dave White at 5.7 percent, and five other candidates at 3.3 percent and lower. By far, “undecided” leads the field at 48.7 percent. The poll also finds that 61 percent of Republican voters would likely support a Trump-endorsed candidate, 13.2 percent would be less likely to support someone endorsed by Trump, and 26 percent say it would not make a difference to them.
The poll also found that more than 72 percent of state Republicans say it’s very or somewhat important that a U.S. Senate candidate has lived in Pennsylvania. That question targeted David McCormick and Mehmet Oz, who have moved to Pennsylvania for the race. McCormick grew up in the state while Oz went to school in Philadelphia. About 78 percent of Democrats and 64.7 percent of Independents say residency in PA is very or somewhat important.
