A man serving time in prison in Indiana County was sentenced yesterday for assaulting state prison employees.
Judge Michael Clark ordered 38-year-old David Austin, to serve 35 months to six years in a state correctional facility. Indiana County District Attorney Bob Manzi said in a news release that Austin was serving time at SCI-Pine Grove for a conviction of third-degree murder out of Philadelphia County when on February 6th, he assaulted two corrections officers. State police investigated the matter. On November 18th, Austin entered a guilty plea to one count of assault by a prisoner, with the other count not prosecuted as part of the agreement.
The sentence for assault by a prisoner will be added on to the 20-40 year prison sentence he is serving. He is serving his sentence at SCI-Fayette.
