The Pirates got two home runs from Diego Castillo, but the Twins’ Bryon Buxton hit a grand slam in Minnesota’s 9-4 win over the Bucs yesterday at Fort Myers, Florida.
Castillo’s two home runs continued a torrid spring at the plate for the versatile infielder, who is making a strong push to make the roster for the season opener at St. Louis, which is a week from today. Bligh Madris also homered for the Pirates, who lead all Major League teams in home runs with 27 this spring.
Two Pirates rotation hopefuls, Bryse Wilson and Dillon Peters, got cuffed around. Wilson pitched 3-and-a-third innings and gave up three runs on three hits with two walks. Peters gave up six runs on five hits and a walk in just two-thirds of an inning.
Zach Thompson pitches for the Pirates today against the Orioles in Bradenton.
