IUP’s men’s basketball team will work out again today in Evansville, Indiana as they prepare for tomorrow night’s NCAA Division Two Elite Eight game against Hillsdale. The Crimson Hawks are the number two seed while the Chargers are seeded seventh.
The Bevo Francis Watch List for the top player in small college basketball was trimmed to 25 over the weekend. IUP’s Armoni Foster did not make it, but Hillsdale’s star forward Partick Cartier did. The 6-8 junior from Brookfield, Wisconsin is averaging 22.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He scored 20, 30, and 23 points in the three-game regional tournament.
Cal’s Philip Alston is the only PSAC player remaining on the Bevo Francis list. The top-seeded team in the Elite Eight, Nova Southeastern, has two players on the list. Others in the final eight with players on the list are Augusta, Northwest Missouri State, and Black Hills State.
The tournament opens tomorrow with a one o’clock game between fourth seeded Bentley and number five Northwest Missouri State. That will be followed at 3:30 by Nova Southeastern against number eight Black Hills State. The other half of the bracket tips off at 7 o’clock with IUP taking on Hillsdale, followed by number three Augusta against number six Chico State, at 9:30.
Tune in tonight for a special IUP Elite Eight Preview Show on 92.5 FM U92 at six o’clock. We’re back on the air tomorrow night at six for the pregame show.
