More brush fires were reported yesterday in Indiana County, bringing the total for the year so far up to eight so far.
Each fire required a response from additional fire departments. Indiana County 911 reported that the Commodore Fire Department was initially called out at 4:23 PM to a property on Route 580 in Green Township. Within minutes of the first call, Cherry Tree fire department was dispatched, and about 21 minutes after the initial dispatch, Clymer and Hope fire departments were called to the scene. Commodore fire officials say that windy conditions were responsible for the growth of the fire, which spread to two acres before crews got there. The fire was brought under control quickly. Hope fire department was cancelled en route, while Clymer was moved to standby detail. About 3.7 acres of brush burned in the fire.
The second brush fire was reported on Rexis Road in Buffington Township at 4:44 PM. Vintondale fire department was initially called out. Nanty-glo, Brush Valley and Armagh Fire Departments were dispatched 16 minutes later. Vintondale fire officials said on the department’s Facebook page said that the quick-moving fire burned five acres of brush, but they were able to save the barn and the house.
The third fire was in North Mahoning Township at a property along Route 954 North at 8:07 PM. Plumville and Perry Township fire departments were called out first, with Dayton fire department called out five minutes later. Details on the fire have not been released.
