A pretrial conference is scheduled this morning before Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco for 27-year-old Matthew Bartlebaugh of Glen Campbell, who is charged with shooting his father to death two years ago on New Year’s Day.
A trial date has not yet been set. A motions hearing is scheduled two months from today. Bartlebaugh is charged with felony criminal homicide and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
Police said 43-year-old Jerald Bartlebaugh was shot while asleep in his bed at around 3:00 AM on January 1st of 2020. His girlfriend was also in the bed but she was not hurt.
Matthew Bartlebaugh was taken into custody after a standoff with police that lasted several hours. He surrendered to members of the Pennsylvania State Police and their Special Emergency Response Team after they lobbed flash-bang grenades into the home.
Authorities at the time said that Bartlebaugh suffered from mental illness for several years and they had been called out to the house on other occasions. Last April, Judge Bianco granted a defense request to employ a psychiatrist/toxicologist.
Today’s conference is scheduled for 8:30 AM.
