The Penguins overcame a two-man disadvantage in the first minute of the game and Tristan Jarry became the fourth goalie in team history to win 30 games in a season on the ice in St. Louis last night.
Paul Steigerwald has the story of a shootout win.
REACTION:
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Penguins’ penalty killers were outstanding, especially after Kris Letang and Jeff Carter both drew penalties in the first minute of the game.
Sullivan admired the Penguins’ determination after the Blues erased their 2-0 deficit.
Despite tying their season high with 45 shots on goal, Sullivan told the team they had even more opportunities to put the puck on net.
Bryan Rust was one of the forwards who helped kill off the Blues’ two-man advantage in the first period.
Rust says the Penguins played well, and overcame some tough luck.
Jarry says reaching thirty wins for the season feels great. His 89th career win passed Denis Herron for fifth place on the Pens’ career wins list.
Jarry liked the work of the penalty killers on the first period 3-on-5.
Marcus Pettersson was back in the lineup for the Pens after being a healthy scratch for two games. He had an assist on Chad Ruhwedel’s third goal of the season. Mike Matheson also scored, his ninth goal of the season off a great cross-ice feed off the boards by Kasperi Kapanen.
The Penguins’ three-game road trip concludes tomorrow at Arizona. It’s a four o’clock airtime, five o’clock puck drop in Phoenix.
