Today is St. Patrick’s day, and authorities are reminding people to celebrate safely when it comes to alcohol consumption.
Indiana Borough Police have teamed up with the Pennsylvania DUI Association to remind people to not drink and drive over St. Patrick’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. According to statistics from the Pennsylvania DUI Association, there were 213 impaired driver crashes over St. Patrick’s Day Weekend in 2021 along with nine fatalities related to those crashes in Pennsylvania.
Officials remind everyone that even one drink can and will impair your judgement. People are reminded that if they know they will drink at a celebration this weekend, plan ahead for a sober ride, either through a designated driver, a taxi, a ride-share service or another form of mass transportation. Officials are also asking those to take the keys from a friend if they plan on drinking and driving. Finally, those who see a drunk driver on the road, call 911.
