The IUP Crimson Hawks will do battle with PSAC West rival California tonight at the KCAC for the Division Two Atlantic Regional championship.
IUP beat Fayetteville State and Mercyhurst in the first two rounds of the Regional, while Cal downed Fairmont State and West Virginia State. IUP has beaten Cal three times this season, twice in the regular season and also on March 2nd, 70-63, in the PSAC quarterfinal.
IUP and Cal have met three times in the Regional, for three consecutive years in 1994, ’95, and ’96. IUP won the first two times and Cal in ’96. IUP head coach Joe Lombardi is 20-9 all-time in NCAA tournament games with two regional titles and two national title game appearances in 2010 and 2015.
IUP assistant coach Ron Fudala says the game will have that familiar PSAC energy.
You’ll hear the Atlantic Regional championship game beginning with the Sheesley Electric Pregame Show at 6:30 tonight, tipping off at 7 on 92.5 FM U92 and online at the U92 Sportschannel.
