Penguins president of hockey operations Brian Burke yesterday sent a message to struggling winger Kasperi Kapanen, who has not scored a goal in the last 17 games. On the “GM/Coaches Show” on the Penguins Radio Network, Burke said he doesn’t normally single out players for criticism, but the Pens “need more from (Kapanen).” Burke said of the winger, “He is trying. He’s a good person. He’s working hard. But he is not getting enough done.
Coach Mike Sullivan dropped Kapanen off the Evgeni Malkin line on Tuesday night in the loss to Florida.
The Penguins have 77 points and are tied with the Rangers for second place in the Metro Division. They play Vegas tomorrow night at PPG Paints Arena. The Golden Knights are coming off a 2-1 loss at Philadelphia on Tuesday. With 68 points, they are third in the Pacific Division.
