Two of Indiana County’s girls basketball teams advanced to the second round of the state tournament yesterday, while one saw its outstanding season come to a close.

The Penns Manor Comets struggled to find offense against Neshannock, which ended the Comets’ season for the second year in a row. Todd Marino has the recap.
The second round matchup on Friday for 24-4 Homer Center will be against powerful Serra Catholic, the number three team out of the WPIAL this year. The 21-2 Eagles beat Clarion Limestone last night, 52-37.
22-4 River Valley will move on to play District 5 champion Chestnut Ridge, which is only 14-11 this year, but they crushed WPIAL number three Waynesburg Central, 53-29 in the first round last night.
Sites and game times for the Round of 16 have not yet been announced.
There are three Class 2A Heritage Conference boys teams in action tonight.
On 92.5 FM U92, District 6 runner-up Penns Manor will host the number three team from District 9, Karns City. The Comets are 20-5. The Gremlins are 19-7.
On Cat Country, 106.3 FM, the number four team from District 6, Heritage Conference champion United, will visit WPIAL champion Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. The Lions are 21-6. OLSH is 20-3.
Both the Penns Manor and United broadcasts tonight are scheduled to begin at 6:40.
One other Heritage Conference team will be in action tonight. District 6 number three West Shamokin, at 17-8, will play District 9 runner-up Redbank Valley, which is 22-4.
