PIAA STATE TOURNAMENT TIPS OFF TONIGHT

The PIAA state basketball tournament begins today, with three girls Heritage Conference teams in action, and all on the air tonight.

On WCCS, FM 101.1 and AM 1160, the District 6 Double-A champion Homer-Center Wildcats plays host to Burgettstown, the seventh team out of the WPIAL.  The pregame airs at 6:40, with tipoff at 7:00.

On Cat Country, 106.3 FM, the District 6 Triple-A champion River Valley Panthers plays host to Pequea Valley, the number four team from District 3, in Lancaster County.  The airtime will be 5:40, with tipoff at 6:00.

River Valley coach Ric Brown says the Braves’ record might not be great, but they often play “up” in competition.

On 92.5 FM U92, the Penns Manor Comets travel to New Castle High School to play WPIAL champion Neshannock, which beat the Comets in overtime last year in the state semifinals after Penns Manor led by 13 points in the third quarter.  The final was 39-36 after Megan Dumm’s three-point shot with 1.7 seconds left just missed.  The airtime for the pregame is 7:10, with tipoff at 7:30.

Tomorrow, three Heritage Conference Double-A boys teams will open the playoff tournament.  Penns Manor will plays host to Karns City; United will visit Our Lady of Sacred Heart; and West Shamokin will play Redbank Valley at Clarion University.
