On Tuesday, Indiana Borough Council approved removing two parking spaces in connection with a proposed Dunkin Donuts location along Philadelphia Street.
The original motion was for the removal of four parking spots: two along Philadelphia Street and two along South Fifth Streets. Council voted 6-5 to approve removing the Philadelphia Street but denied the removal of spots for South Fifth Street by a 7-4 vote. Borough Councilman Gerald Smith said that this was not a vote to reject the business, as he would like to see Dunkin come to downtown.
On both matters, Joshua Krasta abstained due to a possible conflict of interest.
The borough also approved the closure of Philadelphia Street from 9th to 13th Streets and 11th Street from Water to Church Streets on Sunday, August 14th for an Italian Festival to be put on by Bruno’s, Naps and AutoSports. The approval also includes a waiver for the borough’s open container rules.
