Homer-Center outscored overmatched Burgettstown, 26-4, in the second quarter on its way to a 50-18 mercy rule victory in the opening round of the PIAA Class 2-A girls basketball playoffs on Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils committed more turnovers – 17 – than first-half points – 13 – as Homer-Center built a commanding 38-13 halftime lead.
The Wildcats put the game into the mercy rule in the third quarter, outscoring Burgettstown, 10-2 increasing their lead to 48-15.
In the fourth, Homer-Center played keep away, running a motion offense, attempting only three shots, and scoring just two points. If not for a 3-pointer as time expired, Burgettstown would not have scored.46-23
The Wildcats, now 24-4, had two players in double figures, led by Macy Sardone with 17, while Marlee Kochman added 12.
The District 6 champions will now play Friday night against the winner of the Serra Catholic/Clarion Limestone game. The game will be played at a neutral site.
The Penns Manor Comet girls’ basketball team was eliminated in another 2A game, losing to Neshannock, 46-23.
