State Senator Joe Pittman and State Representative Jim Struzzi has announced that the Indiana County Development Corporation received $2.5 million from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, or RACP, and that money will be used to acquire and redevelop a rental property to prepare it for adaptive use.
The grant money, which came in late last year, will be used towards reacquiring the six acre property that contains Essex House and Carriage House student housing complexes, which represents 327 beds for IUP students. Pittman says that the ICDC is looking to repurpose the rental housing in the wake of declining student enrollment at IUP.
No word yet on what the property will be used for. Right now, the property is “under agreement” according to Byron Stauffer with the ICDC. The sale is not expected to be complete until August of this year. Until then, students who have leases will continue to use the facility, and no students will be displaced until the sale is complete.
