No injuries were reported in a fire in Armstrong Township on Sunday that started with a washing machine.
Indiana and Elderton fire departments along with Citizens Ambulance and the county HazMat team were dispatched at 12:48 PM for the fire on Lacey Lane. Crews arrived and found that the back porch of a two story home was on fire. Their neighbor was quick to react and knock down the fire with a fire extinguisher before fire crews arrived. Firefighters continued to douse the exterior with water and check for hot spots inside the house.
Fire officials say the fire had started in a washing machine. Earlier in the day, the tenants said that they had a problem with it overheating and moved the washing machine outside. That turned out to be a fortuitous decision as the washer did eventually catch fire, causing only exterior damage to the home.
