Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert yesterday told a media gathering that the team intends to bring in at least two other quarterbacks.
Colbert, who will conduct his last draft before stepping down as GM, said that Mason Rudolph would be the starter if the season was beginning now, but he said there is “good quality available” in the draft with guys like Pitt’s Kenny Pickett and there are a number of veterans who may be in play. He said the Steelers will “look at every possible avenue” in the search to find Ben Roethlisberger’s replacement.
Colbert also said that he and team owner Art Rooney II are conducting the interviews to find a new GM. The team has already interviewed two internal candidates, Omar Khan and Brandon Hunt, along with at least seven others from outside the organization. The first round of interviews must be over by March 1st if the Steelers wish to avoid other teams denying them the chance to interview employees already under contract. Colbert said the second round of interviews will come after draft, with coach Mike Tomlin taking part.
