With the State House Appropriations Committee on the verge of its second week of budget hearings, the Senate Appropriations Committee begins its first week of hearings on Tuesday.
Representative Jim Struzzi says Governor Wolf’s spending plan relies on revenue estimates that are far higher than those offered by the state’s nonpartisan Independent Fiscal Office. Last week, he grilled Community and Economic Development Acting Secretary Neil Weaver about the governor’s RGGI proposal and the news from Homer City Generating Station that it will consider cutting its operating units after May of 2023.
Senator Joe Pittman is raising similar concerns, while at the same time pledging to work to find the best use for the plant site, noting that the plant’s leadership has said it intends to engage the community on alternative uses. One potential use could be installing renewable generating capacity.
