Five fire departments in northern Indiana County will receive $15,000 each as part of over $270,000 in state funding for fire and ambulance companies across the state.
The statewide grant program started in 2000 by the PA General Assembly allows all fire, ambulance and rescue companies in the state to apply for funds. The money can be used for recruitment and retention, construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, reduction of existing debt or replacing lost proceeds due to Covid-19-related fundraising restrictions.
State Representative Brian Smith, who represents the northern part of Indiana County as part of the 66th district, said that Commodore, Glen Campbell, Marion Center, Plumville and Rossiter fire departments will each receive $15,000 in grant funding. The money comes from slot machine gaming, and does not come out of the state’s general fund.
