GIRLS
The Indiana High girls topped North Allegheny, the defending state champions who came into the game at 20-1 and ranked number two in the Class 6A playoff bracket. The girls also learned their playoff path as the WPIAL announced the brackets prior to the game.
Todd Marino has the game recap.
Indiana will be seeded number five in the Class 5A playoffs, and while that normally would give them a home game, the WPIAL scheduled the game at Hampton High School, more than 63 miles away, for their first round playoff game against Thomas Jefferson, tipping off next Tuesday at 6 PM. Thomas Jefferson is the #12 seed. Should Indiana win, they would play the winner of a game between Moon and Woodland Hills on Friday the 25th.
The top four seeds in Girls 5A are Chartiers Valley, South Fayette, Trinity, and Moon.
Coach Otto Peterson, Hope Cook and Mia Ciocca talked to WDAD after the game.
The West Shamokin girls took down Derry, 57-47 as senior Lexie Young scored 27 points and Maddie McConnell 14. It was the end of the high school career for Derry’s Tianna Moracco, Derry’s all-time leading scorer with 1,163 points.
