The Heritage Conference Championships arrive tonight at the Kovalchick Complex, with the girls and boys basketball championships on The Road to the KCAC Presented by First Commonwealth Bank. (Buy tickets here or watch online here.)
The girls tip off at 6:00 with the top seeds from the East, Penns Manor, taking on the number one team from the West, Homer-Center.
The Comets come into the game with a regular season conference record of 11-1, followed by their semifinal win over River Valley. The Wildcats were 9-2 in the regular season, with a win over Purchase Line in the semis. The two teams met in their Heritage Conference openers on December 14th at Penns Manor, with the Comets eking out a 46-45 win.
Penns Manor coach Jason Miloser says Homer Center has a lot of weapons.
Homer-Center coach Nick Moore says his girls are excited to play at the KCAC.
The boys championship is a rematch of last season’s title game, when West Shamokin defeated United at West Shamokin. This year, with the return to division play, United won the East and West Shamokin was second. In the semis, United beat the number two team from the West, Cambria Heights, while West Shamokin won on the road, knocking off the top team from the East, Penns Manor.
The Lions and Wolves split their two games this season, each winning on the other’s floor.
United coach Matt Rodkey says West Shamokin is going to be tough.
West Shamokin coach Judd McCullough knows United will come in “with a chip on its shoulder” after having lost the championship game last year and been beaten on January 31st. He says the return to the KCAC is very special.
We’re on the air from the KCAC tonight at 5:20 on 92.5 FM U92 and the TribLive High School Sports Network. You can also watch the game on Renda Digital TV by clicking on the video link at any of our four Renda Broadcasting websites.

Conemaugh Valley will become the eleventh school in the conference, with the latest three – Cambria Heights, Portage, and Conemaugh Valley – all being Cambria County schools. Along with Northern Cambria, they make four Cambria County schools in the conference. Six schools are from Indiana County and one from Armstrong County.
