The IUP basketball teams split up for makeup games tonight. The women will be on the road at Mercyhurst, a team they beat, 77-58 nine days ago at the KCAC. Coach Tom McConnell’s ladies have won two straight and four of their last five. They are 15-5, and 9-5 in the PSAC.
Coach Joe Lombardi’s men will be at the KCAC tonight to play Slippery Rock, which they beat, 75-70, on Saturday on the road. IUP is ranked 8th in the nation at 19-2, and are 13-2 in the PSAC. IUP trailed by as many as fifteen points on Saturday before rallying to win, despite fifteen three-pointers by Slippery Rock.
Tonight’s men’s game will be played without fans in the stands, as will Wednesday’s doubleheader against Cal U.
Lombardi says IUP will have to provide its own energy, rather than feed off what would typically be one of their biggest crowds of the year, but they’ll be ready.
Jack Benedict and Tony Coccagna will have the action tonight on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel, with the pregame at 6:45.
