An effort is being organized to help a family of four who lost all their possessions in a fire on Sunday in Homer City.
Nine fire companies were called out just after 5:00 AM to the home where Matt Blystone and Tonya Gibbons lived with two children. The family members were rescued after Homer City firefighter Scott Johnson saw people on a back roof of the house.
The home was gutted and is considered a total loss. Not only were firefighters dealing with the house fire, they were also dealing with bitter cold as temperatures were at 7 degrees at that time. That not only caused water flow problems and slippery conditions, but also affected the energy of the firefighters on scene.
Homer City fire fighters are putting together an effort for people to make donations to supply the four with the clothing they need, along with toys for the kids and other every day essentials. Items needed include:
- men’s and women’s 2xl size clothing
- shoes in sizes 8 and 13 for adults.
- size 1 boys shoes
- size 10/12 boys clothing
- size 9 toddler shoes
- 3t and 4t sized girls clothes.
Donations will be accepted tonight at the Homer City Fire Hall from 6-8 PM.
