Last night, All-Star weekend for the NHL got underway with the Skills competition. For some, it was a chance to get technical, while others got the chance to be creative. Winners included:
- Jordan Kyrou for fastest skater with a time of 13.550 seconds.
- Jack Campbell and Andrei Vaselevski had a streak of six in the consecutive save contest.
- Zach Werenski winning a face off contest on the fountain at the Bellagio hotel.
- Victor Hedman won the NHL Hardest Shot contest.
- Alex Pieterangelo brought in a drumline to give Vegas glitz to the Breakaway challenge and win there. Other creative touches included a tribute to Dodgeball and a magic trick where a young hockey player scored the goal, and even a tribute to “The Hangover”
- Joe Paveleski won a skill-shooting game akin to blackjack
- Sebastian Aho won the accuracy contest, with the Pens Jake Guentzel taking second.
Guentzel and goalie Tristian Jarry will play tonight in the NHL all-star tournament, where the winning division will split a $1 million purse.
