The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson as their new head coach. Pederson was with Philadelphia from 2016 until 2020, and he won a Super Bowl in 2017. His hiring leaves the Dolphins, Saints, and Texans without a head coach.
Pederson’s hiring in Jacksonville leaves the Steelers as the only team in the league with a Black head coach, two days after former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores filed a lawsuit against the NFL and three teams alleging a pattern of racist hiring practices by the league and racial discrimination.
Steelers president Art Rooney said yesterday that while the league has not seen progress in the ranks of head coaches, they have seen marked improvement in the hiring of women and minorities in other key leadership roles. He would not comment specifically on the Flores lawsuit.
