Governor Tom Wolf has announced his plan for about $2 billion in unused funds Pennsylvania received under the American Rescue Plan Act.
Through his plan Governor Wolf is proposing to help families and workers still struggling as a result of the pandemic to get back on their feet, increase property tax relief for low income renters and homeowners and provide more assistance for small businesses. The governor says he also wants to use the remaining stimulus money to do more to help healthcare workers and invest in conservation, recreation, preservation and community revitalization projects as well as address the threat of climate change.
But Governor Wolf’s plan is receiving mixed reviews from the state legislature. House Republican leaders were quick to denounce Governor Wolf’s plan saying it was “developed in a fiscal fantasy land where concern for future fiscal years apparently doesn’t exist.” But the Democratic Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Representative Matt Bradford, says Democrats and Republicans need to show the political will to put the remaining federal stimulus dollars on the street. Bradford challenged Republicans to come up with a better plan if they have one.
