IUP announced Tuesday that no spectators will be permitted at IUP athletic events from Feb. 1 to Feb. 13, citing concerns about COVID-19 cases and the protection of the health and safety of its students, employees, and community.
The university also cited a concern over the lack of spectator compliance to its masking mandate at indoor athletic events. Other universities in PaSSHE have taken similar action.
According to the news release issued shortly after 1:30 this afternoon, the university hopes that spectators can return after this two-week pause and that decisions will be made as a result of continued monitoring of the situation on campus. The release said that IUP will communicate updates to this decision as soon as information is finalized.
The release states that tickets for any games missed during this time period will be valid for future games.
IUP home basketball games can be heard on U92.5 FM.
The policy does not apply to the upcoming Heritage Conference basketball championships to be played on Feb. 11 at the KCAC.
