A motions hearing is scheduled today in the case of a Shelocta man who is charged with setting a home on fire in August of last year.
The hearing will be for a motion for dismissal due to the mental incompetency of the defendant, 38-year-old Kevin P. Olechovski. He faces two felony counts of arson, one with the danger of death or bodily injury, the other for intentionally destroying an unoccupied building. He also faces felony charges of reckless burning or exploding and criminal mischief along with misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
State police say that a verbal argument among family members lead to Olechovski setting the fire at the home on Vista Lane back on August 9th of 2021. No injuries were reported but the home was a total loss. He has been in Indiana County Jail since then as he was unable to post $50,000 cash bail.
